Smile Services

Smile Services: (Age range from 5years to adults)

Rachel works closely with the family to develop a tailored programme and works with them to offer support, maintain motivation and review the progress. The programme is adapted as the results are monitored.

Smile assessments:

At least one parent must be present during the initial evaluation, where the following factors are examined:

  • Sensory & Motor integration hyper/hypo sensitivities.
  • Reflex Integration
  • Neuro-developmental delays
  • Birth
  • Developmental milestones
  • Nutrition
  • Allergies/intolerances
  • Environmental offenders
  • Emotional challenges
  • Stress
  • Health factors

Smile assessment approaches:

Smile uses a multidisciplinary approach consisting of either or both of the ILT[1] or HANDLE®[2] therapies, in a non stressful, non threatening environment. Initial referrals from other professionals, discussions with the family and intake questionnaires, will determine which evaluation is in the best interests of the client before any assessment proceeds. Fees for the assessment will be agreed as part of this process.

The ILT initial full evaluation consists of two 2 hour sessions: (4 hours total)

Session One:
  • Full evaluation of client and intake of all information regarding the above factors:
  • The design of an individualised movement programme is then put together for the client in preparation for the second session.
Session Two:
  • Comprehensive verbal feed back and a written summary of evaluation for the reasons for underlying symptoms
  • Filming & demonstration (on DVD) of the home based movement therapy programme
  • A follow up session within 10 days to 2 weeks to fine tune the programme & provide support
  • Further follow ups every 4 - 6 weeks to monitor progress, maintain motivation, and adjust the programme.
HANDLE® screening consists of:
  • A shorter assessment tool for 5 years and older to identify which sensory/motor systems may be weaker and so could be impeding the full potential of the individual's academic and social learning and contributing to behavioural and attention difficulties.
  • A neuro-developmental profile is created and a short movement programme is designed using HANDLE specific activities to help strengthen and integrate neural processing.
  • If the screening results show that a more in depth evaluation is required a full ILT evaluation would be recommended.

Smile additional services offered:
